1. Cook onions in margarine until translucent.
2. Add flour and cook until all onion is coated and margarine is absorbed.
3. Add remaining ingredients and stir.
4. Simmer for at least 1 and 1/2 hours.
Serve with crackers or bread. Place a small dollop of sour cream in center of each bowl if desired.
